
‘Lanterns’ finale attracts best audience of season
HBO Lanterns The season finale attracted 10.5 million viewers worldwide in its first three days, marking a new record for the series.
The episode, which debuted on October 4, grew 13% globally compared to the series premiere in L3. It attracted 7.2 million viewers in the United States alone, according to the latest data from Skydance-owned HBO.
Overall, the season averages 19.3 million viewers worldwide and continues to grow, maintaining its place among the top five HBO series launches in the platform’s history. HBO says the audience for the series premiere is now approaching 30 million.
This bodes well for a Season 2 renewal, which Deadline reports is on hold.
lanterns, from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television, launched in August to 9.3 million multi-platform viewers worldwide and 6.6 million in the United States during its first three days of availability on HBO and HBO Max. The company confirmed at the time that it had outperformed the first of several tentpole series, including Computers: Welcome to Derry, the Penguin And True Detective: Land of the Night. These reached 27.1 million, 19.8 million and 17.5 million viewers on average worldwide respectively, which already constitutes a good argument in favor of the trajectory of Lanterns.
Lanterns is from co-creators Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King. The series follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark Earth mystery with cosmic connections as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
