Bomb disposal teams attend after Heathrow flight makes unscheduled landing in Warsaw
Adam Szabłowski, spokesperson for Warsaw Modlin Airport, told tvn24.pl: “A plane from London landed at Modlin Airport at 10:01 a.m. with 181 people on board.
“The airport has been closed. We are waiting for mine clearance experts.”
The airport said in a statement that the plane was directed to a designated area after landing and would remain there until authorities, including bomb disposal teams, could provide feedback.
Passengers were asked to wait in the arrivals lounge while checks were carried out. Modlin announced later Tuesday that the rest of the airport had resumed operations.
Warsaw-Chopin remained open on Tuesday, an airport spokesperson said.
Warsaw has two airports: Chopin is within the city limits and Modlin, mainly used by budget airlines, is approximately 35 km from the capital.

In context: Bomb fears add to concerns over ‘hybrid attacks’ on Europe
Although no one has claimed responsibility for the alerts, the incidents reflect growing concerns in Europe about hybrid threats to infrastructure, amid growing security tensions since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
A drone loaded with explosives was discovered near a Ukrainian plane at Leipzig/Halle airport in eastern Germany in August, sparking a counterterrorism investigation.
Germany accused Russia of being responsible for the attack. Moscow has repeatedly denied any involvement in sabotage or hybrid warfare operations and has not commented on Tuesday’s incidents in Poland.
The incidents come a day after a WizzAir flight from London Luton to Sofia in Bulgaria was diverted to Budapest following an in-flight bomb threat. It ultimately turned out that this scare was a false alarm.

The four flights affected today by bomb threats in Europe
A bomb threat forced a jetliner from London to make an emergency landing in Poland on Tuesday, while three other threats grounded flights from Manchester, Copenhagen and Israel.
– A Boeing 737 from the Polish company LOT coming from Heathrow was carrying 181 people when an alert caused it to land Tuesday morning at Warsaw-Modlin airport, diverted from Warsaw Chopin.
– A second bomb threat was reported on a Scandinavian SAS flight from Copenhagen to Warsaw, which was forced to land at Chopin Airport and was also being checked.
– A third threat was reported on a Ryanair flight carrying 114 passengers from Manchester and landing in Murcia, southern Spain, according to Diari ARA.
– Separately, a plane from Israel landed at Sofia airport after a bomb threat was received by email, local media reported on Tuesday. Counterterrorism units were checking the plane for possible explosive devices.
It was not immediately clear whether the threats were related.
