Lions and Vikings injury report: Kerby Joseph OUT, CB start questionable
The Detroit Lions (4-2) and Minnesota Vikings (6-0) declared their injury designations ahead of their Week 8 matchup at Ford Field, and as expected, Lions All-Pro safety Kerby Joseph was ruled out because he’s not quite ready for the game. Additionally, Lions starting corner Roger McCreary was added to the injury report Friday and is listed as questionable.
Let’s take a look at Friday’s injury report and update what we know.
Note: Any changes from the most recent injury report will be in bold.
Joseph returned to practice Wednesday and slowly acclimated to football activities, sticking to individual and group drills during the first few practices.
βHe did a good job,β Lions coach Dan Campbell said during his Friday news conference. “It’s been good so far. Again, we haven’t taken any team reps. It’s all been individual and group. But he’s handled it well. That’s kind of the goal. We’re slowly progressing him here, working on him. We’re doing a little more of that type of work on him today. Plus, we’re overkill after the fact. We’re still doing some rehab, getting him to do some of the miles that he’s not doing right now that he usually gets; running, the volume. And then next week we’ll have him in actual practice So he’ll do the (individual exercises) and all that.
It’s also worth noting that Joseph was spotted wearing a compression sleeve on his knee, but Campbell noted that these are often used to prevent or minimize swelling and reminded people that Joseph is still in the “infancy stages” of this acclimation process.
McCreary was added to the injury report Friday, and it’s unclear when his injury occurred. With so little information, we’ll have to wait for the team to announce further updates between this report and game time. If McCreary can’t play, look for Ennis Rakestraw to start at outside corner.
Not listed with an injury designation
All players in this section were limited or did not practice earlier in the week, but returned to full practices Thursday and Friday (with the exception of Rakestraw) and do not require an injury designation for Sunday’s game. They are ready to leave.
Rakestraw was limited most of the week, but it appears he will play this weekend. He has become an integral part of the Lions’ defensive back rotation, operating as a CB3 and handling starting responsibilities at outside corner the majority of the time the Lions are in sub-packages.
