Updated November 3, 2026, 11:26 p.m. ET

There haven’t been many public updates on the injury status of Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell thus far. But much of what has been announced is good news.

Most recently, Lions coach Dan Campbell said Jack Campbell was “improving” during a radio interview on Tuesday, Nov. 3, but did not provide additional details on the linebacker’s condition.

Dan Campbell’s latest update came after Detroit released a statement on social media on Monday, November 2 providing an update on Jack Campbell. The Lions coach cited the statement in his own press conference later in the day, sharing his own general update.

“Your prayers are working,” Dan Campbell said. “Please keep doing that. We’ll leave it at that, so keep praying for him. But it’s positive.”

Jack Campbell suffered his scary neck injury while making a tackle on Vikings tight end TJ Hockenson in the fourth quarter on Sunday, November 1. He remained motionless on the ground after the hit, where he was treated by training staff and medical personnel. The linebacker was eventually transported off the field and taken to a local Detroit hospital.

JACK CAMPBELL INJURY UPDATE: Lions share ‘positive news’ on LB after neck injury

Jack Campbell injury update

Dan Campbell provided another small update on the status of Jack Campbell during a radio appearance Tuesday, November 3 on 97.1 The Ticket.

“It’s not easy because he’s always going to be on our minds here,” Dan Campbell said of Jack Campbell, talking about the Lions’ preparation for Week 9. “The good news is he’s getting better.”

The Lions coach made it clear that he is informing his players about Jack Campbell’s status through the team captains.

“I’m thinking about him – knowing he’s getting better, and I kept the captains informed, and they let the other guys know it was good news,” Dan Campbell said, referring to how the players were reacting to the situation. “I think it helps everyone deal with all of this better.”

Campbell also added that he was trying to keep his players focused on their upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins, expressing concern that “bad things can happen” if the players are not able to carry out their responsibilities during the game.

“All we can do at this point is just continue to pray for Jack,” Campbell said. “Put our thoughts on him when we have a minute, and on his family. And it works, like I said. Because he’s getting better.”

Dan Campbell’s update reflected the Lions’ most recent injury update regarding their All-Pro linebacker, which was released via a statement posted to social media on Monday, November 2.

“Jack Campbell continues to rest and recover at a local hospital. Preliminary indications are positive and out of respect for Jack and his family, we will not be sharing further information at this time,” the team said in its statement.

The Lions head coach delivered some good news when he took the podium for his press conference later in the day on November 2. Although Campbell didn’t give any details about his team’s linebacker, he told reporters things were generally positive.

“It’s positive,” Dan Campbell said. “Your prayers are working. Please keep doing that. We’ll leave it at that, so keep praying for him. But it’s positive.”

Pressed for more information, Campbell said he couldn’t share anything else. He added that he informed the Lions captains of the linebacker’s current condition after the coach visited him in the hospital, and he said the team “knows what’s going on.”

“I had to go see him last night,” Dan Campbell said. “It was good, it was positive. I got to see his parents, talk to his wife. You know, everyone’s in a good mood. It’s about healing. It’s a little setback. It’s family. They’re very positive, so it’s good in that regard.”

What Jack Campbell’s teammates and coaches said about him

Jack Campbell’s teammates and coaches have spoken highly of him when asked about him in recent days. Many players paid tribute to him on social media while others expressed their admiration directly in interviews.

“He’s everything, man,” Lions point guard Aidan Hutchinson said when asked about Campbell. “He’s captain, leader, teammate, husband, father, everything. So yeah, we’re all praying for him.”

Lions quarterback Jared Goff also sent his best wishes to Campbell while praising the linebacker’s tenacity.

“He’s a husband and a father and it’s scary,” he said in a post-match press conference. “…If I know anyone who is strong enough to get through something like this, it will be him.”

And Dan Campbell made it clear that everyone on the Lions team respected and admired Jack Campbell.

“I don’t even know if I can put it into words,” Dan Campbell told reporters the day after Campbell’s injury, before adding: “He’s trustworthy, he’s reliable. He’d give you his jersey. He’s just all heart, man, all effort. He’s just an incredible person. Down to earth, very genuine. There’s not a man on this team that doesn’t respect Jack Campbell and care about him.”

What is Jack Campbell’s condition?

The Lions have not provided a concrete update on Campbell’s exact condition. The team said the preliminary results are positive, which Dan Campbell echoed during his press conference on Monday, November 2.

However, the exact nature of Campbell’s neck injury and whether he can move his extremities have not been shared.

What happened to Jack Campbell?

Campbell suffered a neck injury after confronting Vikings tight end TJ Hockenson in the fourth quarter.

He remained on the ground while training staff and medical personnel surrounded him and the cart arrived. Campbell was loaded onto a backboard before the cart took him off the field.

Lions teammates knelt and looked concerned as staff tended to him. Defensive end Aidan Hutchinson was in tears as the game was paused.

The Lions announced Sunday evening that Campbell was resting and expected to spend the night at a local hospital for continued evaluation and monitoring.

He was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for a neck injury after leaving the team’s Week 8 win over the Vikings.

Head coach Dan Campbell had no update on the linebacker after the game.

“Thoughts and prayers are with Jack and his family,” the coach said. “He is taken care of. We have no new information.”

Who is Jack Campbell?

Campbell is a linebacker for the Detroit Lions.

The 26-year-old is in his fourth season in the NFL, all with Detroit. The Lions drafted Campbell with the 18th pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft after he played in college for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

A native of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Campbell broke out during his junior season with the Hawkeyes, totaling 143 tackles, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a sack in 2021. Returning for his senior season, Campbell was named an All-American in 2022 and received the Butkus Award as college football’s top linebacker.

He was also awarded the William V. Campbell Trophy, also known as the “Academic Heisman”, in 2022 for being recognized as the college football player with the best combination of academics, leadership and on-field performance.

Campbell became a key part of the Lions’ defense after arriving in the NFL. However, it didn’t officially break out until its third season. Campbell recorded 176 total tackles, three forced fumbles and five sacks en route to being named a first-team All-Pro and earning his first Pro Bowl appearance last season.

On May 21, 2026, the Lions recognized Campbell’s breakout with a four-year, $81 million extension.

Prior to his injury in Week 8 of the 2026 NFL season, Campbell had not missed a game in his four-year career.
