LIV Golf’s survival until 2027 will be known by the end of October, the lawyer said at the bankruptcy hearing.
We will know by the end of the month if “LIV 2.0” will actually take place.
A lawyer representing LIV Golf told a federal bankruptcy court judge Wednesday that he would need to know whether the league would move forward to 2027 or close permanently, according to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach.

And, perhaps most notably, Judge Michael B. Kaplan of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New Jersey approved a motion to throw out 19 players’ current deals with LIV Golf. The league said current contracts “do not reflect the compensation structure contemplated under LIV 2.0.”

While LIV Golf says the move is key to restructuring and negotiating new player deals for LIV 2.0, it means several big-name golfers — including Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson and Cam Smith, for example — have been released from their contracts with the company.
Whether they choose to stay with LIV Golf or find a way to return to the PGA Tour or DP World Tour remains to be seen.

LIV Golf rips DP World Tour decision
LIV Golf is trying to find a way forward after a difficult and chaotic season in 2026. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund announced earlier this year that it would no longer financially support the league, despite reportedly investing more than $5 billion in it. LIV Golf filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month.
LIV Golf has since reached an agreement with BC Partners, which has committed to investing more than $300 million in the new league provided certain conditions are met. But perhaps the biggest problem LIV Golf will face, outside of the financial realm, is simply retaining players.
Several big names have already made it clear that they do not want to stay with LIV 2.0. Jon Rahm is the biggest of them, although Smith, Sergio Garcia, David Puig and Abraham Ancer are also leaving. Patrick Reed left in January and is working to get his PGA Tour card back through the DP World Tour.

During the court appearance on Wednesday, LIV Golf’s lawyer tore the DP World Tour decision to ban golfers from both competitions leagues in 2027. The European league, which previously allowed golfers who compete with LIV Golf to have conditional status on their Tour. Next year, however, golfers will have to choose one or the other. European golfers must also be in good standing with the DP World Tour to play on the Ryder Cup team.
According to lawyer Robert Fitzgerald, this is a “clear attempt to interfere” with LIV Golf’s restructuring efforts.
“We continue to monitor this situation very closely and we are frankly very concerned about it,” Fitzgerald said. “We reserve all rights, remedies and respect regarding these statements that are made.
“Frankly, the timing in particular seems to us to be a clear attempt to interfere with our process, with our players, and potentially our reorganization at large… Player freedom is why LIV Golf was created, and it is the foundation of LIV Golf 2.0, a league built around its players. LIV has expressed its belief in free agency and that top players should have greater flexibility to compete in the ecosystem. It is unfortunate that another tour is adopting an opposing point of view and pressure our players with a false choice.”
