Russian strikes injure at least 13 in kyiv and Odessa

Russian strikes injured 13 people in Ukraine’s capital kyiv and the southern city of Odessa, officials said on Telegram.

Authorities in the capital announced that ten people were injured and the city’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said several buildings were damaged.

Three people, including a child, were injured in Odessa in a Russian strike on a 19-story residential building, authorities in the Black Sea port said.

US Congress adopts new sanctions package against Russia

American deputies approved new sanctions against Russia and its allies for their role in the war against Ukraine, a text already adopted by the Senate and supported by Donald Trump.

This bill, which provides for the first time on the American side to attack Russia’s ghost fleet, was adopted by 262 votes to 159 and constitutes the first major action by the American Congress against Moscow since the Republican president’s return to power. It also targets Russia’s energy and defense sectors and attacks Russian President Vladimir Putin and other senior officials.

Above all, the text gives the American president the power to impose customs duties of up to 100% on the five main countries importing Russian gas and oil, including China and India – a provision which could block its passage.

Democratic deputies support the measures in favor of Ukraine but are reluctant to give Donald Trump free rein on these customs surcharges, his favorite economic tool.

Loud explosions heard in kyiv

Loud explosions rang out in the early hours in kyiv, during a missile alert called by the authorities, according to an Agence France-Presse (AFP) journalist in the Ukrainian capital.

This journalist heard around ten powerful explosions, while the kyiv military administration had issued a “red alert” and asked the population to go to shelters due to a “threat of missile strikes”.

According to a first point from the mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, an apartment building as well as various other buildings were hit by projectile debris. In Odessa, a city on the shores of the Black Sea also regularly targeted, a 19-story apartment building was also damaged by a “night attack”, said the local military administration.
