The United States carried out strikes on the Iranian island of Larak on Sunday, the first in a month. The Iranian Guards, who had promised retaliation, say they have attacked American military targets in Jordan. Follow events live.

Jordanian army says it intercepted eight missiles

The Jordanian army announced that it had shot down eight missiles, the origin of which it did not specify, having entered its airspace.

In a statement, the Jordanian army said it had “successfully destroyed” these missiles, while Tehran claimed to have targeted United States installations on two bases in retaliation for American bombings.

Oil prices opened higher in Asia

After the announcement of the new American strikes, oil prices opened higher in Asia.

The price of a barrel of Brent from the North Sea, an international benchmark, rose 2.51% around 10:20 p.m. GMT, thus returning above the symbolic threshold of $90, to $90.31. Its American equivalent, a barrel of West Texas Intermediate, increased by 2.41% to $85.41.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said it attacked US military targets in Jordan with ballistic missiles and drones, in retaliation for US strikes on Larak Island.

These attacks targeted technical and maintenance installations as well as aircraft positioned at two bases in Jordan, the Guards said in a statement cited by Iranian state media, warning that “any act of hostility will be met with even more powerful retaliation.”

First US strikes in Iran in a month

The United States carried out strikes on the Iranian island of Larak, the first in a month, the US Middle East Military Command announced, causing deaths and injuries according to Iran.
