The New Jersey governor said that if Democrats gain control of the House, they should “leverage it to fight for the people” and check Trump’s power, even if they can’t enact laws.

“It’s not possible to make a deal on appropriations because we’re appropriators and we’re bipartisan,” Sherrill told AP.

House Democrats promised votes restoring Affordable Care Act tax breaks, reversing Medicaid cuts, holding votes against the war in Iran, and reversing Trump’s tariffs.

Rather than a single package like the Republican Act of 2025, Sherrill argued for breaking down the issues individually and framing the argument each time. By showing voters what a Democratic-led government would do, she said, “you galvanize the people around it, so that when we take over the presidency in 1928, everything will be ready.”

When asked specifically if she would cut funding to the Pentagon to rein in Trump on Iran, she responded: “Every drop of power you have, you use as leverage for the people.” »
