The 18-year-old landed on his right shoulder after a sack, according to USA Today, and was diagnosed with a broken collarbone hours later.
Bo, who plays quarterback for Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, Tennessee, revealed his injury on Instagram Saturday and thanked everyone for their “thoughts and prayers.”
Speaking to the Tennessean, he recalled thinking he had a “sting,” but once he got off the field, he “really knew something was wrong.”
Bo has had quite the football career thus far, leading his team to a 6-1 record in his first full season as starting quarterback, according to the local media outlet.
Amid her son’s impressive sports season, the “Country Girl” singer reveled in being her son’s No. 1 fan.
“I’m super impressed,” Luke, 50, told USA TODAY Sports in September. “It’s against a big rival in his senior year, he’s learning as he goes.”
“Everything that’s happening to him this year, it’s the first time he’s faced all these pressure situations, all these ups and downs. He came out, we fell behind and he threw a pick that turned into points for them,” he continued of his son.
In addition to Bo, the singer shares son Tatum Christopher Bryan, 16, with his wife, Caroline Boyer.
The couple also adopted Bryan’s two nieces and nephew after the death of his brother-in-law, Ben Lee Cheshire, in 2014. His sister, Kelly, had previously died in 2007.
In his interview with USA Today Sports, Bryan also praised his son’s athletic abilities.
“Bo is very young in his development as a quarterback because he’s been a two- or three-sport athlete his whole life,” he said. “The fact that he was able to really step up as a quarterback was incredible to see.”
