Saturday evening live just presented his take on Donald Trump’s famous courtesan, Natalie Harp, and it’s terrifying.
The iconic sketch series kicked off its 52nd season Saturday with a cold open featuring Trump (played once again by James Austin Johnson) speaking to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (played by returning guest Ramy Youssef), only for the two to be interrupted by an unsettling appearance from Harp.
“Natalie, I didn’t realize you were in New York,” Trump said.
Harp, played by actor Ashley Padilla, replied giddily: “Oh, I wasn’t. I ran here from DC, Weapons-style.”
Harp, 35, is Trump’s extremely dedicated personal assistant, who is the subject of constant media scrutiny due to her seemingly fanatical loyalty to the president.
Padilla leaned heavily into the idea that Harp is obsessed with Trump, even doing an impersonation of the possessed villain from the hit horror film. Obsession.
After making a series of unsettling faces, Harp said, “I’m just kidding, I’m totally normal,” but neither Trump nor Mamdani seemed reassured.
Harp has been criticized not only for her intense loyalty to Trump, but also for her apparent influence over his decisions. On Sunday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Harp pushed Trump to ban CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House press pool.
Harp came under further scrutiny in August when the Daily Beast published the entirety of the strangely intimate letters she wrote to Trump in 2023, in which she called herself “unworthy” of him.
“You are all that matters to me,” Harp wrote to Trump. “I never want to let you down.”
SNL‘s Harp was just as dedicated. At one point, she took Youssef’s Mamdani aside and told him with a chilling smile: “If you hurt (Trump), I will.” END You.”
Mamdani seemed annoyed but largely unconcerned by Trump and Harp’s behavior. When Harp left the room, the 34-year-old mayor used Trump’s unexpected crush to his advantage.
When Trump asked if he could stay with Mamdani in New York, the mayor replied: “Only if you give us $21 billion for a housing project in Queens.” »
When Trump said no, Mamdani suggested, “What if I followed you on Instagram?”
Trump quickly responded: “It’s a fait accompli. »
