The Ohio senator, who has been the subject of constant praise from President Donald Trump for his looks, revealed what he thought about the comments.
Twice in recent days, Trump took the time during rally speeches to talk about Republican Jon Husted’s “ass.” During his Saturday appearance on Fox News, Husted was asked about his reaction to Trump’s comments.
“Well, I have to tell you, when I woke up the next morning after hearing that, I told my wife, I was like, ‘Hey, I think I need to go to the gym and maintain my reputation! So, I need to keep working out,'” Husted said.
The Republican, in a tight race, added that he was part of an athletic family, as he played college football and his wife ran marathons.
“Well, that got you a lot of headlines. Maybe some you didn’t expect, but definitely a lot of press,” Fox host Aishah Hasnie joked.

At rallies in North Carolina and Ohio, Trump spoke about Husted’s body.
“But I looked at his butt, and then I looked at his legs,” Trump said. “I said, ‘His ass, damn, it’s like, it’s like a bunch of muscles. Then I looked at his legs and I said, ‘Man, his feet are big.’ Then I looked at his shoulders and patted him on the shoulder, and it hurt my hand. He’s like a piece of steel. I said, “This guy is a monster!” »
Trump’s comments were mocked both online and by television pundits. CNN’s Anderson Cooper aired a montage of the president talking about the bodies of other officials on a show this week.
The clips included several politicians. At one point, it showed Trump calling Georgia Republican lieutenant governor candidate Greg Dolezal a “nice guy.”
“You don’t have the right to say that about women or men anymore. It’s the end of your political career. But he’s a fine man,” Trump said.
Cooper then ended with a quip about Husted and Trump’s comments.
“As for Senator Husted, his ass may be tough, but his poll numbers are soft. According to the latest CNN poll, he’s down five points,” Cooper said.
Husted is running against Democrat Sherrod Brown in a competitive race in Ohio. A Cook Political Report poll released this week found Brown leading Husted, 49 to 43 percent.
