MAGA is preparing for the end of the world, literally

In about twenty-four hours, the Republican Party could be facing a series of catastrophic results in the midterm elections. If polls are to be believed, the party’s defeat could be serious enough to represent a rejection of the party’s entire direction over the past decade.
Yet pro-Trump media figures are urging their audiences to focus their attention on an even more serious possibility: a total global apocalypse. Whether it’s the prospect of a world-ending war, a debilitating cyberattack, or some other type of catastrophe, there is a growing sense among right-wing luminaries that the end is near.
Much of the attention of these media figures over the past week has focused on the idea that Western governments are hiding the fact that an unnamed apocalyptic event, unrelated to the midterm elections, is imminent.
“I want to tell you to prepare for impact,” podcaster Glenn Beck warned his hearing on Wednesday.
The apocalypse fever sweeping the right has been embraced by pundits like Beck and former FBI deputy director Dan Bongino, and has prompted one Republican congressman to try to allay those fears by insisting that no “shit hits the fan” scenario is about to happen.
Yet the pervasive idea of a coming collapse of civilization has sparked a wave of preparatory advice on the conservative Internet.
