Man arrested and charged with attempted murder against law enforcement in domestic incident

MONETA, Va. (WDBJ) – A man was arrested and faces several charges, including attempted murder, after shots were fired in the direction of a law enforcement officer, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

The Franklin County Communications Center received a 911 call on Saturday, October 31 at 5:10 a.m. reporting an unknown situation at a residence on Oldfield Road in Moneta.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the residence and said a man allegedly assaulted family members inside the home before barricading himself inside.

During the incident, the man fired a firearm several times from inside the residence towards law enforcement officers, according to police.

Deputies say they established communication with the man who was arrested after about 30 minutes of trying to resolve the situation peacefully.

Caleb Lane Hodges, 26, of Moneta, has been charged with:

• Three counts of attempted aggravated murder against law enforcement
• One count of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, first offense
• One count of malicious shooting into an occupied building
• One misdemeanor count of reckless handling of a firearm
• One misdemeanor count of assault and battery
• One count of obstructing justice
• One misdemeanor count of assault and battery against a family or household member

He is being held without bail pending further legal proceedings.
