Man City player ratings against Ipswich with three 8/10 as Erling Haaland is good but Marc Guehi struggles
Manchester City player ratings from the Manchester Evening News as Erling Haaland scores twice
Manchester City moved six points clear at the top of the Premier League table after a 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town. Erling Haaland scored twice in a game that City controlled but still had to wait for victory.
Phil Foden stepped up on his return to the team after an almighty wait following his red card against United, but City were pegged back almost immediately after some careless work from Marc Guehi. Haaland quickly had the inflatable bananas in the stands waving again as he headed towards Mateo Kovacic’s cross.
Haaland’s second looked to have made the game safe in the second half, but another error from Guehi gave Ipswich a late penalty and allowed a nervy finish. Twelve minutes of added time did little to ease the Etihad’s nerves, but the Blues held on for another important victory.
Here are the player ratings for Manchester Evening News.
Donnarumma: I didn’t have much to do, I could have been stronger on set pieces. 6
Nunes: Terrific all afternoon, not giving anything away and moving the ball forward with confidence before taking a hit. 8
Guéhi: Really poor Ipswich goal, their worst mistake since Everton last season, and a few careless errors towards the end too, including conceding a penalty. 4
Days : Two grueling long-range efforts to accompany a solid display in defense where he kept his composure. 7
O’Reilly: Nothing particularly serious, but he had more difficulty than usual connecting with Doku and he should have done better from a corner. 6
Bouaddi: Not as eye-catching as his PSG cameo, but he did a lot of cleaning and his long legs make it difficult to dispossess him. 7
Kovacic: Carried the ball well in midfield and was involved in both goals before appearing to pick up an injury early in the second half. 7
Foden: He scored well and did a good job in the middle in his first game since United last month. 7
Ndiaye: He does so well and his assist for Haaland’s second was deserved for the threat he had carried all afternoon. 8
Document : An assist for the first goal and while he was in and out of the game he was still too much for his full-back. 7
Haaland: Barely in the match for the first half hour but ended up with two goals. Haaland goes Haaland. 8
