
Man dies after jumping into Yorkshire Zoo’s tiger enclosure | Zoos
A man has died after being attacked by a tiger after jumping into his enclosure at a Yorkshire zoo, police said.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park was evacuated shortly after the incident and the site will remain closed on Sunday.
South Yorkshire Police said that at 1.35pm they received reports of an individual entering the zoo grounds near Doncaster.
The force said the attack “resulted in serious injuries”.
The statement added: “Emergency services attended and unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medical staff, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“This man’s family is aware and is being supported by specialist officers. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
“Regarding rumors regarding the tiger’s condition, the animal was not injured and remained in the enclosure following the incident and there is no further risk to the public.”
The force said earlier: “We are aware of the videos circulating online and we encourage people not to share these distressing images. »
Yorkshire Wildlife Park said a “serious incident” had occurred inside the enclosure.
He said in a statement: “Our emergency response procedures were immediately activated and emergency services are currently attending the scene.

“We are working closely with authorities to determine exactly what happened.” He added that “the safety and well-being of visitors, staff and animals remains our top priority.”
Footage shared on social media appeared to show a man dressed in a black sweater sitting on the floor of the enclosure and being attacked by a tiger.
A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesperson said it had sent a number of resources to the scene, including two ambulances, a Yorkshire Air Ambulance and a doctor.
