Insomniac Games has released a new Marvel’s Wolverine update that adds an option to disable these controversial scent trails for collectibles.

The developer Sony kept his promise to look for a suitable on/off option when version 1.001.006 launched just a few hours ago. It is patch notes reveal more focused changes as the studio fixes remaining issues that have emerged since Marvel’s Wolverine launched on PlayStation 5.

There are three new toggle settings that players can now use to customize their gameplay experience: one for the Whiskey Bottle Scent Trails, one for the Material Crate Audio Hints, and one for the Nightmare Gate Roots. These first two topics have proven to be a particularly hot topic online, with players criticizing the game’s hints as being one of the rare examples of a game that many consider to be too “hands-on.” The addition of the ability to disable these guides entirely should ease these concerns, with a toggle for Nightmare Door Roots adding even more freedom for players to tailor their Marvel’s Wolverine experience to their liking.

The new toggles are pretty simple. If players find the wavy visuals a little too distracting, they can simply turn them off. As noted in the game settings, using the Wolverine’s Crate Finder and Whiskey Finder adaptations will override all reverse toggles.

The update also fixes some crashes reported by the community, as well as a few pesky issues. For example, one of the most common glitches fans saw in viral clips online was Logan getting his claws stuck while sliding down a tree early in the game. Insomniac said this should be fixed now, with an issue related to misaligned claws in photo mode also fixed.

Another fixed bug described in the patch notes concerns strange bathroom signs. Gamers feared signs suggesting Insomniac used generative AI in Marvel’s Wolverine before the studio stepped in to deny the accusations with an explanation. They will no longer be an eyesore in the future.

Instead of fans spending their time talking about the new Wolverine game’s mutant-filled story or its bloody action, the conversation around the launch of the new PS5 exclusive mainly revolved around things like scent trails for collectibles, a motorcycle chase sequenceAnd ‘fart gas.’ While the new update may make it more difficult to find and find whiskey bottles and material crates, story-based scent trails and senses – like the one that allows Logan to follow Jean in the He Who Got Away mission – will remain regardless of which settings are enabled.

On this front, Insomniac has taken steps to make scent trails a little less intrusive. Last week’s update reduced the opacity of trails, reducing so-called fart gas without completely removing it from the experience.
