Masked intruders who attacked Canadian family are ‘armed and dangerous’
Three masked robbers who shot a Canadian real estate CEO and his daughters and attacked his wife with a hammer are considered “armed and dangerous”, police said in describing the thugs for the first time.
MAC Group boss David Morton, 75, his daughters, Maggie and Cristina Zohil-Morton, and his wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, were attacked by masked intruders on the upper floor of their mansion in Toronto’s upscale Bridle Path neighborhood around 3:40 a.m. Thursday, police said.
Police are looking for three men, aged around 20.
The first suspect was described as black and the second as having a slim build, with all three wearing dark clothing and masks.
“Members of the Hold-Up Squad have launched an investigation and are working to identify the suspects,” the Toronto Police Service said in a statement Friday afternoon. “The suspects are considered armed and dangerous.”
Police added that the three men broke in and, once inside, went to the second floor of the six-bedroom residence before demanding personal valuables and discharging “multiple firearms” after getting into an altercation with the family.
Morton and his daughters, both in their 20s, were shot while “trying to fight off” three men wearing hoodies and ski masks, while his wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, 64, was hit with a hammer, a source told the Toronto Sun.
Two of the victims suffered “life-altering injuries” and remain in hospital, while the others have non-life-threatening injuries, Toronto Police Service Inspector Kristy Smith said Thursday.
The seven-bathroom home is valued at $2.1 million and includes a tennis court, in-ground pool and private gardens to “enhance a luxurious lifestyle,” according to an online listing.
The intruders reportedly fled the posh nabe in an SUV, officials said.
“A wealthy area where people would have things they wanted would be the motivation for this,” Smith said.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow asked anyone with information, including images, to come forward and insisted that “violence is not acceptable in our city.”
“I am deeply troubled by the violent home invasion early this morning in the Bridle Path neighborhood. My thoughts are with the family and their loved ones, who are going through something no family should ever have to face. I pray for their full recovery,” Chow wrote on X.
The MAC Group is a family-owned business focused on real estate, executive corporate housing, global mobility and luxury villas in the Caribbean, according to its website.
Morton is CEO, while his wife is president and their daughter Maggie is listed as an employee, while their other daughter, Cristina, runs Zohil-Morton Law, an immigration law firm.
