Actor Matt Damon was removed from the audience during the first night of Jimmy Kimmel Live’s weeklong residency at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on Monday after he repeatedly cheered for the Boston Red Sox and revealed he attended the show with members of the host’s family, Entertainment Weekly reports.
The Cambridge, Mass., native drew the crowd’s first applause when he began yelling “Go Sox!” but the cheers turned to boos as he continued. Kimmel spoke directly to Damon and asked, “You, Red Sox cap loser, what’s your name?”
When Damon responded that Kimmel knew his name, the host responded, “I have no idea what your name is. And honestly, I don’t care, because it’s time for the Red Sox fan’s first eviction ceremony.” Kimmel then called security to “remove this ‘masshole’ from the theater.” »
Damon protested that he wasn’t trying to sneak into the show like he had in his previous appearances, saying, “I’m just here with my family.” He then revealed that he brought in Kimmel’s mother, Joan, and sister, Jill, kissing them as the host reacted in disbelief.
As security removed him from the theater, Damon took Kimmel’s loved ones with him. When Kimmel asked him not to take his mother and sister, Damon joked, “You can keep me off the show. But you can’t keep me off your mom.” He greeted audience members and chanted “Let’s go, Sox!” » as he walked out.
