Fantasy News to Know Before Week 5

Pre-match with Matthew Berry started with the injury chart, and it’s a complicated chart, so let’s quickly recap what to watch for on the Week 5 roster.

  • Ja’Marr Chase remains in the concussion protocol, and Higgins T-shirt (groin/neck) did not practice Wednesday. If either sits, the pie in the Bengals passing game is quickly cut into pieces.
    • Mike Gesicki (76% available) is in the top 12 if Chase or Higgins are out, and Berry returns to him later in the series.
    • Dohnte Meyers (82% available) had a 93% routing rate last week and was 7-82-0 on nine targets. He’s worth a look if Cincinnati’s injuries persist.
  • Terry McLaurin And Steve Diggs both missed Wednesday with hamstring injuries.
    • Antonio Williams (94% available) finished second on his team in goals per route covered last week, and Chig Okonkwo (83% available) should see more short-zone targets if Diggs is out.
  • The Vikings signed Odell Beckham Jr. to the practice squad. Before getting nostalgic, OBJ played 19 snaps in three games for the Giants with one target and zero catches.

Pass Catchers Matthew Berry Likes for Week 5

  • Nico Collins @TEN (WR8)
  • Michael Wilson against DET (WR10)
  • Christian Watson against CHI (WR15)
  • Isaiah Probably @WSH (TE5)

Berry relies on a mix of targets and matchups that feel like gifts. Collins and Wilson see the kind of volume (including in the red zone) that makes their defenses’ struggles against receivers even greater, while Watson and Likely are linked to specific coverage and positional weaknesses pointed out by Berry.

Others receiving votes: Carnell Tate (WR19), DK Metcalf (WR20), Jameson Williams (WR23), Malik Washington (WR29), Mike Gesicki (TE12). Berry has uses and matchups planned for all five, and Gesicki is the one keeping an eye on whether the Bengals’ injuries persist.

Pass Catchers Matthew Berry Hates for Week 5

  • Jordan Addison @NO (WR41)
  • KC Concepcion @NYJ (WR42)
  • Mark Andrews @ATL (TE17)

With these three, it seems like Matthew is toning them down because of a mix of tough matchups, thin roles, and what the numbers say about how they’re actually used. Addison also has an injury heading into the week.

Listen to the data that explains why Berry is making these guys disappear. Pre-match with Matthew Berry.

Running backs Matthew Berry loves Week 5 fantasy football

  • Chase Brown @MIA (RB5)
  • Aaron Jones @NO (RB8)
  • Jaylen Warren against IND (RB12), if Rico Dowdle remains OUT

All three are tied to defenses that Berry believes are split by running backs, and all three have a workload that’s hard to ignore. Brown’s case is also tied to those Bengals injuries, and Warren’s case hinges on Dowdle’s status.

Others receiving votes: Braelon Allen (RB13), Quinshon Judkins (RB14), Emanuel Wilson (RB15), RJ Harvey (RB25). Berry likes volume on all four, and a few of them have particularly sweet confrontations.

RBs Matthew Berry hates Week 5 for Fantasy Football

  • Cam Skattebo @WSH (RB20)
  • Tony Pollard against HOU (RB28)

Berry is concerned about the efficiency and playing environment of these two guys. Neither is in a place that screams “trust me” this week.

Get the full explanation at Pre-match with Matthew Berry. Watch on Roku.

Matthew Berry Quarterbacks Love Fantasy Football Week 5

  • Jared Goff @ARI (QB2)
  • Matthew Stafford against BUF (QB3)
  • Dak Prescott against tuberculosis (QB5)

Berry fills up quarterbacks in high-scoring environments against defenses that can’t stop the pass. Goff, Stafford and Prescott all sit at the top of the Week 5 game script chart, and Berry has the numbers as to why the matchups are going so well.

Others receiving votes: Drake Maye (QB8), Jacoby Brissett (QB9), Aaron Rodgers (QB17). All three have favorable locations against leaky pass defenses.

QBs Matthew Berry Hates Week 5 Fantasy Football

  • Jalen hurts against JAX in London (QB15)
  • Tyler Shough against MIN (QB13)

Berry is fading for a few different reasons: Hurts has had a rough patch and a banged-up line to deal with, while Shough is stepping into a Vikings defense that’s making life miserable for opposing quarterbacks.

See why Berry is going after these two Pre-match with Matthew Berry.
