Matthew Perry’s brother-in-law David Bowick has made a rare comment on the actor’s tragic death while reflecting on a dark chapter in his life.
“There is a documentary about my brother-in-law Matthew Perry coming out on Netflix Tuesday,” the musician wrote on Facebook Saturday, referring to “The One About Matthew Perry,” a three-part documentary series.
“I participate very briefly, but my lovely wife participates quite often,” Bowick, who married Perry’s sister, Mia Perry Bowick, in August 2023.
“I never really spoke publicly about Matthew. He was someone the whole world felt like they knew, but to me he was just my brother. He always started our interactions with ‘Hey, bro’ and I always loved that.”
Alongside the post, David shared an image from his wedding to Mia, in which the newlyweds stood alongside his late sister, Zoe, who died last month aged 46, and Perry.
“Now they are both gone,” he wrote. “It’s a strange thing to see the world remember someone while you’re still trying to figure out how to live without the people you remember them by.”
David said he was asked to write the music for the documentary and that it “meant a lot to be able to contribute a little piece to telling (Perry’s) story.”
“I don’t have anything particularly profound to say. I just wanted to share this photo of two people that I wish were still here. I miss you both so much,” the singer concluded.
Perry was found dead in his spa on October 28, 2023. He was 54 years old.
A coroner announced that the “Fools Rush In” star died from the “acute effects of ketamine,” in addition to drowning, coronary heart disease and the effects of buprenorphine.
In 2024, federal prosecutors charged five people with conspiracy and distribution of ketamine, causing Perry’s death.
Three of the defendants – Perry assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, drug counselor Erik Fleming and Dr. Mark Chavez – have pleaded guilty.
“Matthew Perry’s” premieres on Netflix on Tuesday.
