New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said President Donald Trump has agreed to grant a visa to the mother of a teenage immigrant from Ghana who was shot and killed last week in the Bronx.
“The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone thousands of miles away,” Mamdani wrote Saturday on X. “Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person. I just got off the phone with President Trump and he agreed to grant her a visa immediately.”

Javits Frimpong, 15, was walking to school in a Bronx neighborhood shortly before 9:30 a.m. Thursday when he was shot in the abdomen, according to New York City police.
He was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The incident remains under investigation.
“All of New York City is mourning this tragedy,” the mayor said.
Frimpong arrived in the Bronx from Ghana a year ago to stay with his father and start a new life in the United States, according to U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y.
TRUMP AND MAMDANI EXPECT TO MEET AGAIN ON MAYOR’S GROUND AFTER MONTHS OF POLITICAL COUP

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said President Donald Trump has agreed to grant a visa to the mother of a teenage immigrant from Ghana who was shot and killed in the Bronx.
“Our entire town mourns a young man who should have had his whole future ahead of him,” Torres said. “Every child in the Bronx deserves to walk to school without fearing for their life, and no parent should ever have to endure what Javits’ father, Thomas, is currently enduring.”
Thomas Frimpong described his son as a quiet teenager. He told reporters who learned just days before the shooting that his son was being bullied at school.
“It was the principal who told me,” said Thomas Frimpong. “He said two guys were bothering my son, so he suspended both guys. My son is at school. He’s innocent, so I call him. I talk to my son, he said ‘Dad, I’m fine.'”

He also praised Mamdani’s intervention and Trump’s “timely decision” to grant the victim’s mother a visa.
“The pain of Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi as a loving mother is unimaginable and indeed everything must be done to ensure that she is present to pay her respects,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The Ghanaian government “will cover the entire travel expenses of Madam Adu Gyamfi and is also ready to contribute to a dignified funeral”, he added.
