Mayor Nithya Raman’s campaign messages remove ‘fascist liars’ video criticizing LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell

LOS ANGELES (KABC)– “Only you can stop the fascist liars,” said Nithya Raman and content creator Ed Choi, who is supporting Raman for mayor.

The comment was made in a video produced by Choi and implies that fascist liars include the Los Angeles Police Department, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell and Mayor Karen Bass.

In the video, Choi asks, “What is your plan to defascise this city?”

Raman responds: “I actually think there are a lot of things we can do to make sure that our LAPD is actually protecting people instead of protecting the ice on our streets like we’ve seen. I think it starts with a culture change at the highest level and new leadership within the department. I don’t believe Chief McDonnell has reached that moment.

This is not the first time Raman has called for Chief McDonnell to be removed if he is elected. And although his campaign didn’t get the video made, they were listed as collaborators before quickly removing the video.

In a statement, the Raman campaign said in part: “Nithya was interviewed by several social media creators on Sunday. In an interview, the creator asked her to repeat her phrase “only you can stop the fascist liars,” which she said in reference to the Trump administration’s ICE and violent kidnappings that continue in our city today. LAPD officers, which is why we have removed ourselves from the post and asked the creator to remove it immediately. »

In an interview with Marc Brown of Eyewitness News, Mayor Karen Bass responded to the video which shows a photo of her and the text below says “Only you can stop the fascist liars.”

“For someone who wants to become mayor, call her boss, our department fascists or even consider firing the chief with less than a year and a half until the Olympics, that shows in my eyes that she is completely unprepared for prime time,” Bass said.
