MBTA increases speed on part of the Orange Line
BOSTON —
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority announced that starting Sunday, Orange Line subway service will run faster.
MBTA Acting Secretary and General Manager Phil Eng said slow zones between Assembly Station and North Station are gone and signals have been improved.
This means trains can run at 55 miles per hour on the line north of Gare du Nord.
The MBTA made similar improvements between Oak Grove Station and Assembly Station in 2025.
Riders can expect “shorter travel times and 76% more service every weekday compared to winter 2023,” Eng said.
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey said she was grateful to Eng and MBTA workers, saying, “When we took office, we committed to fixing the T and providing the faster, safer, more reliable service that riders deserve. »
