The Pennsylvania Department of Health is warning shoppers about possible exposure to measles at a Target store in Lebanon County.

Health officials said a person who tested positive for measles went to the Target at 1745 Quentin Road in Lebanon on Friday, Oct. 23 between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Anyone in the store at the time may have been exposed to the highly contagious virus.

The ministry urges those who may have been exposed to check their vaccination status.

What are the symptoms of measles?

Symptoms of measles may include fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes, followed by a rash that starts on the head or face and spreads downward.

Symptoms may appear 7 to 21 days after exposure.

According to health officials, the only way to prevent measles is the MMR vaccine.

What should you do if you are exposed?

Health officials say unvaccinated people are at the greatest risk of infection.

The measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine provides the best protection against the virus, providing 97% lifetime protection after two doses, according to the Ministry of Health.

The department said the person who tested positive was instructed to isolate at home while they were infectious.

Anyone who thinks they may have been exposed and has symptoms should contact their health care provider or call the Department of Health hotline at 877-PA-HEALTH (877-724-3258).

Pennsylvania residents can find additional information, current guidance and the state’s measles dashboard at pa.gov/measles.
