Meghan Markle reveals why she met Malala Yousafzai
Meghan Markle and Malala Yousafzai spilled the tea for a good cause.
“’When we support the girls of today, we empower the women of tomorrow. Access to education is the key to achieving this.’ – Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Malala Yousafzai,” the “Suits” alum, 45, wrote on Instagram on Sunday alongside two photos of her and the activist having tea and scones.
Markle then said her jam company would collaborate with the Yousafzai Foundation.
“This International Day of the Girl, in partnership with Archewell Philanthropies, 100% of net profits from As Ever Jams and Teas will support the Malala Fund and its vital work to ensure every girl has access to a free, safe, quality education,” she wrote.
“Tea for Two has never tasted so good. Shop at asever.com,” Markle concluded.
Last week, the Duchess of Sussex was spotted enjoying a girls’ night out with Yousafzai, 29, at the luxury Claridge’s Hotel in London.
An eagle-eyed netizen captured the duo in conversation as they sat across from each other.
This isn’t the first time the two have hooked up.
In 2020, they participated in a virtual conversation hosted by the Malala Fund to discuss International Day of the Girl, barriers to girls’ education, and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on students around the world.
“Meghan and I are on the same page: we both believe that when girls have access to education, everyone wins,” the Nobel laureate tweeted after the meeting.
“Thank you so much to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for sitting down with me to have an important conversation about the future of our world. ♥️,” she added.
The outing marked the first time Markle was seen in London since she, her husband, Prince Harry, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, returned to the U.K. in late August.
Markle and Harry, 42, were photographed last week heading to a local pub for lunch.
Page Six exclusively reported that the couple returned to the UK to be closer to Harry’s father, King Charles III, who is currently battling cancer, and to ensure their children build relationships with their family.
“Absolutely everyone hopes that father and son can have a closer – more private – relationship,” a royal source said. “It just doesn’t help that every time they meet or talk it slips out.”
