“Anyone who has sources in Republican politics knows that this is the state of affairs right now,” Halperin explained, adding that 45 Republican strategists have since contacted him after he invited anyone who disagreed with his assessment to contact him — and all of them either agreed with his reporting or told him that he had in fact underestimated how dire the situation was for the party.
“Oh my lord,” Kelly said. “Give it to us straight. How bad is it?”
Pointing out that the Republican Party still holds a financial advantage over Democrats, Halperin added: “The president could start putting out useful messages, as opposed to useless ones like ‘I like data centers’ and ‘I like AI.’ If that happens, maybe things will change, but for now, I would say Democrats will win at least 25 net seats in the House and at least six net seats in the Senate.”
“Oh good, my God,” Kelly interjected.
“It could be bigger,” Halperin continued.
“It will get you treated like shit every time Chris La Civita” Kelly said, referring to Trump’s 2024 campaign co-manager’s misgivings about Halperin’s social media post Friday and the opinion column that followed. “Because those are horrible numbers, and now you’re talking about this, it’s more than a blue wave. “It’s a tidal wave.
