Comments Off on Megyn Kelly slams Olivia Rodrigo for speaking out on Cornell rape case

Podcaster Megyn Kelly had strong words for Olivia Rodrigo after the “Vampire” singer shared her thoughts on the rape allegations at Cornell University.

“Olivia, the bottom line is, you don’t know what you’re talking about. Shut up and keep singing,” Kelly, 55, said during the Monday, Oct. 5, episode of her “Megyn Kelly Show” podcast. “I liked you better when you were in front of a microphone singing your weird, depressing little songs.”

The former Fox News host continued, “It’s better to keep your mouth shut and let people suspect you’re an idiot than to open it and prove them right. Have you ever heard that saying? It applies to you, honey. We don’t need the participation of know-nothing idiots who have automatically adjusted to fame and suddenly think they have something profound to say about the culture wars.”

Kelly’s remarks came a day after Rodrigo, 23, opened up about the affair via his Instagram Story.

“Shame on Cornell and all the institutions that protect rapists and abusers of women. I stand with Jane Doe. Her courage reverberates across the country and the crimes committed against her will not go unpunished,” she wrote. “What she experienced matters, as do the failures of those who could have intervened but chose not to. She deserves answers, consequences and lasting change.”

A former Cornell student, identified under the pseudonym Jane Doe, filed a civil suit against the university on September 16, alleging that she was drugged and gang raped by seven students at the Chi Phi fraternity house in 2024. She claims the university failed to adequately punish the alleged perpetrators.

Following public outcry, prosecutors announced on September 28 that they would reopen a criminal investigation into the alleged rape. New York Governor Kathy Hochul also called for an independent review of Cornell’s response to the incident, appointing New York Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor.

Rodrigo is one of many celebrities who have expressed solidarity with Jane Doe, joining stars such as Florence Pugh, Mariska Hargitay and Josh Gad. Kelly, meanwhile, criticized Jane Doe.

During Monday’s episode of her show, Kelly claimed that Jane Doe may have “enjoyed” the experience.

“I’ll just be honest: She’s not the most attractive girl, she’s extremely strong in her arms and legs,” Kelly said, referring to images of a woman rumored to be Jane Doe. “Maybe she liked being admired.”

Jane Doe’s attorney, Thomas P. Giuffra, condemned Kelly’s “mean-minded” comments.

“When people suffer a subsequent attack, it gives others permission to attack. Needless to say, Jane Doe has been through enough,” he told The Daily Beast.
