Metallica wrapped up the first show of their highly anticipated Life Burns Faster residency with a jaw-dropping show at the groundbreaking Sphere in Las Vegas.
“It’s going to be a challenge,” drummer Lars Ulrich said in July. “It’s overwhelming and fucking intimidating. But I hope when we go on stage that first night, we kind of get through it together.”
That mission, it seems, has been accomplished, and the band, who first announced an eight-date schedule at a 20,000-seat venue in February before quickly adding 16 more nights, kicked off their first set with the classic Puppet Master opener Battery.

Their 16-song set was packed with classics such as Creeping death (deployed as second song), Sad but true, Wherever I can move, Nothing else matters And Ktulu’s callthe latter dedicated to the late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton.
But the group also performed a few 21st century anthems, including Now that we are dead, The day it never arrives And Lux Æterna.
They rounded out the show with a series of classics, including Ride the lightning, The memory remains, Search and destroy And Puppet Master.
While there were no surprises in the set, they dusted off the 1988 title track. …And justice for all for the first time since 2014.
Last month, Metallica announced 12 new North American concerts as part of its ongoing M72 Tour, which kicked off in March 2023. Full dates – including the Las Vegas dates – are listed below.
