In a press release released this Wednesday, July 22, she considers that the text “does not constitute the expected overhaul”.
If the elected official recognizes “useful progress”, in particular to better secure reception areas, she regrets the absence of structural measures. She points out in particular the lack of responses to the crisis in the professions, the difficulties in accessing care for children entrusted to Child Welfare (ASE) as well as the absence of real national management.
“Child protection must remain a national responsibility”
Based on the conclusions of several official reports, Chaynesse Khirouni calls for a more ambitious reform, with a programming law, multi-year funding and a plan in favor of professionals in the sector. She also advocates for strengthening prevention, support for parenthood and the fight against domestic and sexual violence.
The president of the Department also insists on “the need for better care for children with mental disorders or disabilities, as well as strengthening cooperation with the Judicial Protection of Youth”.
“If child protection is a departmental competence, it must remain a national responsibility,” she affirms, believing that the State must guarantee all children the same level of protection.
“The children can’t wait any longer,” she concludes.
