Federal regulators last week announced a recall of peperoncini — yellow-green pickled chili peppers — after a customer posted a video showing her unexpectedly discovering what appeared to be a dead mouse in her jar.
The advisory, issued by GL Mezzetta Inc., concerns a batch of Mezzetta brand Golden Greek Peperoncini.
“We are aware of a video circulating on social media showing a potential harmful contaminant in a jar of Mezzetta GOLDEN GREEK PEPERONCINI MEDIUM HEAT, 32 ounces,” the recall notice states.
The video first surfaced on September 16, when a woman said she noticed the mouse while she was preparing peperoncini for dinner.

“There’s a dead baby mouse in my peperoncini,” she said in the video while holding up the jar.
“I found out after I was already licking my fingers,” she said.
The company said it has contacted consumers who purchased products from the same lot and is “working directly with them to isolate and remove the affected product from sale.”
