Michigan football quarterback Tommy Carr to make first career start against Indiana
As first reported by 247Sports Tuesday night, Michigan’s true freshman quarterback Tommy Carr is expected to make the first start of his career against the No. 6 Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday afternoon.
The Wolverines were in disarray on offense – trailing 3-0 at halftime with Underwood at the helm. But everything changed when Carr entered the game and instantly provided a much-needed spark for Michigan.
Carr led three scoring drives in the second half, highlighted by a game-clinching 12-yard touchdown run late in the game. He completed 5 of 7 passes and compiled 83 total yards and a touchdown.
It became clear that Michigan needed a change after Underwood threw two interceptions during a scoreless first half against Penn State, and Carr’s impact was palpable. Now the freshman quarterback has his chance to start.
Prior to his appearance against Penn State, Carr played in just one other game this season. In a blowout win over UTEP, Carr completed 2 of 2 pass attempts for 23 yards and a touchdown. He also had two carries for 18 yards on the ground.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound quarterback is the grandson of legendary former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, who led the program to the 1997 national championship. Nearly three decades later, his grandson will start for the first time against the defending national champions.
