It’s been a tough year for the Michigan Wolverines. After a lukewarm 3-0 start, Michigan lost its final two games, forcing the team out of the top 25.

The offense, led by second-year quarterback Bryce Underwood, took a significant step back. Through five games, the team ranks 105th in the nation in points per game. Underwood has just five touchdowns and four interceptions to open the year.

With the team struggling, it seems frustrations are boiling over…for one player at least. Michigan tight end Zack Marshall found himself in the spotlight after leaked texts appeared to show Marshall ripping the team’s coaching staff, particularly offensive coordinator Jason Beck.

Marshall seemingly confirmed the texts were real on Tuesday, as he apologized to his teammates and coaches for making “inappropriate comments” after a loss.

His statement read:

“Last weekend, in the hours following our loss, I made inappropriate comments that I regret. This game is won and lost as a team, and I pointed fingers instead of taking responsibility. I let my frustrations speak for me in an emotional moment. I apologize to my teammates and coaches for the unnecessary drama this caused. I will always be proud to represent Michigan and will continue to give everything I have to this program. I love Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan and the 147 team.”

In these texts – which were leaked via the College Transfer Portal account on X – Marshall specifically called out Beck several times.

Marshall claimed Beck told tight ends they were not valuable to the team’s offense, criticized the offensive strategy and said Beck was responsible for Underwood’s limited development.

His most damning message was:

“Basically our offense sucks because if you blitz us we have no answers…we have an extra OL on the field every play and run different versions of being able to read every play (clown emoji). Plus Beck tells Bryce where to go every play and he’s tied up. Bryce is a good QB, Beck is trouble.”

This message ended with: “I never said that and you better never leave this group chat.”
