Mike Macdonald on Sam Darnold: He’s definitely part of the solution
It’s been a tough time for Sam Darnold since returning from a hip injury suffered in the season opener.
Darnold has thrown at least two interceptions in three of his last four games, each lost by the Seahawks. Even in the Week 4 win over the Chargers, Darnold threw an interception and finished with just 168 passing yards.
But the Seahawks are considering turning to backup Drew Lock, who did a good job protecting the football in the season opener and in the team’s Week 2 win over the Cardinals.
After saying the team was not considering a QB change during a radio interview earlier Friday, head coach Mike Macdonald reiterated that stance during his press conference, saying the team had confidence in the QB.
“I think we have a lot of confidence in Sam,” Macdonald said. “Sam has played great football for us. He’s done a lot of great things this year. We’ve obviously turned the ball over more than we’d like. I feel like there are things on our end that can help him play better football. And I think he’s definitely part of the solution.rather than the opposite.
In his five starts, Darnold completed 60.4 percent of his passes for 1,033 yards with seven touchdowns and a league-leading seven interceptions.
The Seahawks have time to regroup before hosting the Chiefs on Sunday night in Week 7.
