Mike McCarthy during an exchange with Aaron Rodgers: “I wish I hadn’t used those words”
In the first quarter of Thursday night’s game between the Steelers and Browns, Pittsburgh quarterback Aaron Rodgers got upset.
Considering he’s often upset during matches, that doesn’t really narrow things down.
He was particularly disturbed that the part was arriving too slowly. And a microphone picked up his words.
“What the hell is this?” Rodgers said angrily to the sideline. “Call him. “
The Prime Video cameras then cut to coach Mike McCarthy, who seemed to say, “Fucking asshole.”
After the game, McCarthy initially feigned confusion when asked about communication issues. When the questions became more specific, he said Steelers public relations director Burt Lauten spoke to McCarthy about the exchange that was broadcast on television.
“Sometimes communication is not the best choice of words, but everyone is competing on the field,” McCarthy said. “I think, you know, what’s said on the field, the way I grew up in this game, you know, usually stays on the field. That’s not the case today. I understand that. But, yeah, any negative communication from me, I’d like to not use those words.”
For his part, Rodgers was not asked about the specific trade.
Regardless, the Steelers fell to 2-2. They currently sit in last place in the AFC North, being the only team to have lost twice. If the Bengals and Ravens win on Sunday, the Steelers will be alone in the basement of the division.
