Comments Off on Millennials, rejoice: Disney BFFs Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato reunite in Rare Beauty campaign

Be still, our millennial hearts. On Wednesday, Rare Beauty, Selena Gomez’s makeup brand, unveiled its new collaboration with a very familiar face. Gomez teamed up with her childhood best friend, Demi Lovato, to bring Rare Beauty’s latest campaign – “Still Making Each Other Blush” – to life.

Celebrating Gomez and Lovato’s decade-long friendship, the campaign features the new “Delena Soft Pinch Blush Bundle,” a sweet callback to the fan-coined nickname for the childhood best friends who starred together on Disney Channel. The $50 blush pack is now available at RareBeauty.com.

“Selena and I have shared a lot of memories over the years since we were kids, so to be able to connect in this way, in a campaign that feels so nostalgic to both of us, it’s a really full circle moment,” Lovato said. in a statement. “I’ve loved her liquid blush since she started the brand, so it was really fun working on it. Being on set together was like we were back in our old bedrooms making YouTube videos and playing with makeup.”

Gomez echoed Lovato’s sentiment, adding, “The experiences I’ve shared with Demi are truly unique. Coming together for this campaign has been a beautiful reminder of that history and a chance to celebrate who we are today. One and the same…always.”

Rare Beauty revealed the collaboration on Tuesday, sharing a “download” button and a glimpse of what looked like a teenage girl’s bedroom. Fans were quick to predict a Gomez-Lovato collaboration, dropping GIFs of the former Disney star in the comments.

On Wednesday, the promotional video featuring the famous Disney duo was released. The video, inspired by Gomez and Lovato’s days on YouTube, was the ultimate nostalgia: Gomez and Lovato are seen dancing around the room with makeup brushes, looking at past photos together and talking to the camera.

“I went on YouTube recently and watched our vlogs together,” Lovato recently told Elle about her and Gomez’s YouTube channel. “I think it was something that really captured our innocence at the time and our desire to be present in front of people while still being true to ourselves.”

For the campaign photoshoot, Gomez and Lovato paid tribute to Princess Protection Program, the 2009 Disney Channel movie they starred in together. Taking inspiration from the film’s official poster, Gomez and Lovato are seen sitting on piles of luggage, wearing dresses and tiaras.

Gomez and Lovato first met in 2002, when they were 7 years old, while waiting in line to audition for Barney and his friends in Texas. They ended up being two of the few children present in the seventh season of the series. Their friendship continued to blossom and soon the best friends found themselves both performing on the Disney Channel. Gomez starred in Wizards of Waverly Place from 2007 to 2012, while Lovato appeared on As the bell rings, a short Disney Channel series, before landing his breakthrough role in Camp Rock. Like Gomez, Lovato later landed a starring role in her own TV show, Sonny with a chance, from 2009 to 2011.

Both stars also launched solo music careers around this time: Lovato released her debut album, Don’t forget, in 2008, while Gomez’s album, Kiss and say, with her group, Selena Gomez & the Scene, debuted in 2009.

Gomez and Lovato broke up before finally getting back together. The Rare Beauty founder attended the opening night of Lovato’s It’s Not That Deep tour in Orlando last April. She celebrated her longtime friend’s success with a series of heartfelt Instagram Stories.

“I’m in tears,” Gomez wrote on Instagram in April. “@ddlovato – this was hands down one of the best shows. Oh and the VOCALS? Psh *blown away.*”

Nearly 25 years later, the Princess Protection Program stars always show up for each other. Their new Rare Beauty campaign is proof of this.

“There have been different chapters throughout our lives, and naturally friends are sometimes very present in each other’s lives, and sometimes you’re not in constant communication,” Lovato told Elle of her relationship with Gomez. “But Selena is someone that I’ve always loved and adored. It’s really great to be in a place today where we can collaborate on things, but also just spend time together.”
