Mother dies trying to save children swept away while snorkeling in Bahamas during cruise stopover
A loving mother drowned while desperately trying to save her two children who were swept away by a strong current while snorkeling in the Bahamas, according to a report.
The unidentified 36-year-old British woman was on a snorkeling expedition with her husband and two sons south of the island of Bimini when the tragedy occurred on Tuesday, the Telegraph reported.
The children were displaced by a strong current – so the mother rushed to save them, but was swept away herself, a spokesperson for the Royal Bahamas Police Force told the outlet.

Rescuers pulled her from the water and performed CPR at a ferry dock, but the woman died in hospital, the spokesperson said.
“Officers responded and, upon arrival, learned that the woman had been transported to the local clinic for medical treatment, where she was later pronounced dead by a local doctor despite efforts to save her life,” the statement continued.

Her sons were rescued from the water and no foul play is suspected.
The family was visiting the tropical island from a cruise ship, ZNS reported.
The deadly incident marked the fourth time people have died in the waters off Bimini in the past two years.
Two of the victims were free divers, according to the media.=
