Mozilla rolls out a new Firefox look on desktop and mobile
The redesigned browser brings back compact mode and adds a theme switcher.
Firefox now looks very different for most users after Mozilla began rolling out an overhaul for everyone on desktop and mobile. The new look may not come as much of a surprise to some. Beta testers have been able to verify this through the Nightly version of the browser over the past few months.
Mozilla says it has updated Firefox’s themes, icons and colors to modernize it in line with recently added features, such as a single toggle for generative AI tools. The redesign itself brings more features to Firefox, as well as the return of compact mode, a highly requested option that Mozilla had previously rejected. This minimizes the screen space taken up by the toolbar and tabs, so you can see more of the website. There’s also a theme switcher that includes wallpaper options and the ability to organize shortcuts on the New Tab screen.
Privacy settings would be easier to find, and Mozilla says it hasn’t sacrificed performance. He added that the new Firefox doesn’t put features like tab groups, split view, and vertical tabs front and center, but they’re still within reach for those who want quick access. Additionally, Mozilla said it designed the customization options with accessibility in mind.
