This is an ongoing story and will be updated as more information becomes known.
The East Lansing Police Department has confirmed a shooting off campus. The first shots were fired around 12:26 a.m. on November 1.
At 8:30 a.m., University of Michigan spokeswoman Amber McCann said the MSU Department of Police and Public Safety assisted ELPD last night with “shootings.” It’s unclear how many shootings took place last night.
McCann clarified that the shootings did not take place on campus and that there was no threat to the campus.
ELPD was searching for a suspect around 1:30 a.m.
ELPD Lt. Chad Stemen said he administered medical treatment to the victims. At this time, there is no confirmation as to the number of victims.
At 7:50 a.m., Captain Adrian Ojerio said the ELPD was “working” on a press release, but couldn’t share anything at this time. He said there would “potentially” be a press conference later this afternoon.
One of the alleged shootings occurred at Linden Street and MAC Avenue.
The State News spoke to witnesses in the area.
Several witnesses said there were between 3 and 7 shots fired.
A witness said he saw a person lying on the ground following the shooting.
Another witness walking on MAC Avenue said he saw two groups of individuals arguing around a car, when an individual got out of the vehicle with a gun.
