Neon sticks to A24 by announcing a film from the Creative Commons SCP Foundation
A24 pissed off one of the Internet’s largest horror communities by announcing that it was working on an SCP Foundation film, but apparently didn’t bother to contact the SCP Wiki team, nor commit to releasing it under a Creative Commons license as required. Seeing an easy PR win, Neon takes advantage by announcing that he is making his own SCP movie. But unlike A24, he proactively contacted the SCP Foundation Wiki team and committed to releasing it under the Creative Commons ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) license.
This is not an “official” SCP film. No wiki staff are involved in writing or production, receive no compensation, and the team’s official position is not to support such projects.
Aside from licensing details, there is almost no information about the upcoming film. Neon says it will hit theaters in 2027, which suggests it will be a quick turnaround and potentially low-budget affair. This isn’t shocking considering the challenges of making a profit on a film made under a ShareAlike license.
In a statement, the SCP Foundation Wiki administration team said: “The SCP Foundation Wiki staff and our community appreciate NEON’s excellent communication and commitment to upholding our license requirements and the spirit of collaboration at the heart of the SCP Foundation project. »
