Nepal: Buildings swept away by flash floods on the Budhi Gandaki River
A flash flood swept away houses, bridges and damaged a hydroelectric project along a river in central Nepal.
The army said on Sunday it had rescued 49 people from flood-hit areas, but five were still missing, the district’s top official confirmed.
The flood is believed to have been caused by a landslide upstream of the Budhi Gandaki River in Gorkha district.
Four bridges and nearly two dozen homes were swept away, along with a camp at a hydroelectric project along the river.
Nepal is still trying to recover from catastrophic floods and landslides that swept through its border towns with Tibet two months ago, destroying thousands of homes, destroying critical energy infrastructure and leaving thousands dead and missing.
