Netflix makes UK layoffs, including Anna Mallett
Layoffs at Netflix have reverberated across the UK.
Deadline understands that about 2% to 3% of the several hundred employees in the London office have been laid off, including Anna Mallett, who was vice president of manufacturing in the UK and EMEA.
Mallett joined Netflix just over five years ago and has worked on TV shows and films in the UK and EMEA. It’s been a period of creative success for Netflix EMEA, with huge hits including Baby Reindeer, Adolescence and the last seasons of Money theft plus the fallout Berlin.
Mallett is a well-known international industry figure who was previously CEO of ITN, reporting news for ITV, Channel 4 and 5. Prior to this she was Group COO and MD Production at BBC Studios.
News of the UK layoffs emerged weeks after Netflix revealed it was cutting 1,000 roles, or around 6% of its global workforce.
The product, technology, legal and human resources teams were among the hardest hit by the cuts, but big names left the streamer, including content chief Bela Bajaria and film director Dan Lin. Bajaria, who was internationally respected for his strategy of creating local hubs, was replaced by UK-born Peter Rice.
Netflix is struggling with slower growth and viewership as well as declining inventory.
The ankle was the first to announce Mallett’s departure.
