New Cowboys trade rumors reveal George Pickens plans ahead of NFL deadline
The Dallas Cowboys are 3-5 and look nothing like a legitimate contender. George Pickens is playing on the franchise tag and could go elsewhere next offseason.
Logic dictates that there could be a trade in the works before the NFL’s November 10 deadline.
But that doesn’t seem to be the case.
“I was told there was nothing here and it wasn’t happening,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported during an appearance on Tuesday’s episode. The Pat McAfee Show. “…Right now, there’s literally nothing. …The Cowboys’ division is wide open. I’d be surprised to see them trade a point guard.”
Rapoport’s final point is important because the Cowboys are still within striking distance of the first-place New York Giants.
New York is 4-2-1 but relies on JJ McCarthy at quarterback with Jaxson Dart sidelined due to injury. They also still have to face the Cowboys on the road in Week 17, meaning Dallas will have an opportunity to secure a critical head-to-head result late in the season.
Considering the amount of talent on the Cowboys roster with Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Pickens and Javonte Williams, among others, it wouldn’t be particularly surprising if they recovered from their slow start and threatened to win the division crown.
Still, trading Pickens would be a big blow to those chances.
The 2025 Pro Bowler has 39 catches for 533 yards and two touchdowns in eight games this season after finishing with career highs across the board last year with 93 catches for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns.
There is obvious chemistry with Prescott, and trading him before the deadline would perhaps prevent the Cowboys from engaging in long-term contract discussions with the star receiver down the line.
Additionally, team owner Jerry Jones told 105.3 The Fan that he doesn’t see the team making any notable trades in the immediate future:
Between Jones’ comments and Rapoport’s reporting, it would certainly be stunning if Pickens finished the season somewhere other than Dallas.
