New leaks give us first look at smart devices from Apple and LG
Following a report from Bloomberg Yesterday as Apple collaborates with LG on a new collection of smart home devices and accessories, a reliable leaker known as “pdfu” on X revealed more details on several of the new products, including a thermostat with a “Far Sight Display” that looks similar to what Nest offers. Details regarding pricing and availability are not yet known, but the devices are said to be integrated into Apple’s smart home hub, which is scheduled to launch on October 13.
The LG Smart Deadbolt Lock will feature a keypad that “rotates to open” and an adjustable design ensuring that rotating parts don’t end up hitting a nearby wall. Features include auto unlock, push to unlock, power backup, adjustable light settings, and an alarm when the door has been left open or unlocked. In addition to access codes and remote functionality, the deadbolt lock will also include a pair of mechanical keys that can be used as a backup.
The LG smart thermostat appears to feature a simplified circular design with a large screen for the current temperature and other measurements like humidity. Settings include adjustments for its “Far Sight display,” brightness, and “calibrated temperature/temperature offset.” To ensure an entire home is properly heated or cooled, an LG temperature sensor that can also measure humidity can be installed, providing the thermostat with readings for other rooms. The sensor features a magnetic back for attaching to metal surfaces, an adhesive metal plate for greater installation flexibility, and a replaceable battery with alerts when it needs to be replaced.
