New The Last of Us projects in “very early stages” of development

Naughty Dog has started work on “some” new “very exciting” The Last of Us projects.
That’s according to boss Neil Druckmann, who announced the conclusion of the Last of Us Day celebrations today.
The series creator said he couldn’t reveal much about the new projects yet, but that they would “expand The Last of Us canon beyond Parts I and II.”
He said:
“The world of The Last of Us means a lot to us, and we wouldn’t return to it unless we had something meaningful to say. We think these stories are worth telling.”
So there’s very little to go on here, but this does indeed confirm that there will be new The Last of Us games, probably on PS6 at this point.
It’s worth pointing out that Druckmann never actually describes these projects as games, although I’d be stunned if they ended up being novels or comics. Naughty Dog is a game developer, after all!
Speaking of which, the Californian studio is currently working on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which will be fully revealed in 2027.
I will be fascinated to see where this takes The Last of Us franchise. Which characters will follow these future stories? Where in the world will we explore? And what will the theme of the intrigues be?
I imagine it will be several years before we get answers to these questions, but it will certainly be fun to speculate.
