Jonathan McKinsey, the New York Times’ games engineering chief, was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in Dublin, California, and his wife’s parents were arrested within minutes on suspicion of murder, authorities said.
McKinsey, 40, was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the Dublin sports field and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the City of Dublin.
A New York Times spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital that McKinsey is director of engineering for the New York Times Games. He had worked for the company since January 2023.
At around 3:08 p.m. local time on Saturday, a Dublin Police sergeant driving near the sports complex spotted a man lying in the parking lot and stopped to investigate.

Around the same time, dispatchers began receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting, authorities said.
Responding officers found McKinsey suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. With the help of witnesses, officers quickly identified and arrested two suspects who remained at the scene, police said.
The suspects were identified as Shouyong Zhang, 77, and Shili Chen, 77, both from Dublin. Officials said the married couple were McKinsey’s in-laws.
Both were arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into Santa Rita Jail, authorities said.

Police said there are no outstanding suspects and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting and have not released a possible motive.
“DPS thanks the witnesses and community members who assisted officers in their response; their cooperation was instrumental in the quick apprehension of the suspects,” officials said.
Zhang and Chen are expected to be arraigned at 9 a.m. PT on Wednesday at the Eastern County Courthouse in Dublin.
Court records obtained by Fox News show that McKinsey was involved in several ongoing legal proceedings at the time of his death, including a child abuse case filed in October 2025 accusing him of “cruelty to a child by endangering the health and causing bodily injury to a child.”
Records show a preliminary hearing in the case was scheduled for September 10.
Separate court records show that McKinsey and his wife, Candice Jang, filed requests for domestic violence restraining orders against each other in 2025.

Records indicate cases involving custody disputes.
McKinsey also filed for divorce in December 2025 and a status hearing was scheduled for October 10.
