The NFL confirmed Monday that it had asked the Department of Homeland Security to remove from a social media post a video featuring hard-hitting highlights from Hall of Fame safety Brian Dawkins in reference to a report about an immigrant caravan approaching the U.S. border.

“The league has asked DHS to remove the video,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told the Times in an email.
About two hours after posting its initial post, DHS responded in the comments section with a still photo of Dawkins and the caption “The border is closed.” As of Monday afternoon, both posts remained intact.

The Times contacted DHS by email and asked whether it initially sought permission from the NFL to use the content, whether it planned to remove the content as the league requested and why it chose to use Dawkins’ images with the posts.
The department sent a statement in response that appears to reference the nine-time Pro Bowl selection’s nickname “Weapon X.”
“DHS plays a defensive role in the event of a border lockdown. We will use every weapon at our disposal, from A to X, to keep Americans safe,” the department wrote.
“The United States Border Patrol is actively tracking a migrant caravan that left San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on September 20, 2026.
