NFL Mock Draft 2027: Updated draft order and projection of top 10 picks after Week 8
Just when things start to make sense in the NFL, something like Week 8 happens. Baker Mayfield doesn’t complete a pass, but the Buccaneers win, while the Dallas Cowboys blow a fourth-quarter lead to lose to the Cardinals. And while it certainly affects this season, these results and more also cause ripples for the order of the 2027 NFL Draft and how the top of the draft could ultimately play out.
With all the craziness of Week 8, let’s see how the order of the 2027 NFL Draft has now changed, then look even deeper as we project the top 10 picks with this draft order in a quick mock draft.

Obviously, we had a huge shake-up in the NFL Draft order with a midweek trade as the Chicago Bears sent their first-round pick to the Tennessee Titans (along with their 2028 first-rounder) in exchange for Jeffery Simmons. Now, not only are the struggling Titans picking in the Top 5 at the moment, but they will also have a pick at the end of the first round.
Speaking of teams with multiple first-round picks, the New York Jets can be happy with their prospects in the NFL Draft, at least. This team has taken a turn for the worse in itself, which makes its own selection better, but the Colts and Cowboys have also been miserable as of late. Indianapolis’ pick is now No. 4 overall, while Dallas’ pick is on the cusp of the Top 10. The Jets can continue this rebuild in an accelerated fashion with this type of valuable draft capital.
The only other thing of note is that the Buccaneers — despite not completing a pass against the Falcons — are now clawing their way out of the Top 10. The NFC South once again looks like a disaster, but Tampa Bay is finding some sort of footing, even with Baker Mayfield seemingly unable to move the ball through the air at the moment.

Chargers, Titans bypass QB class for top draft players
At least for now, the Chargers have Justin Herbert. There is buzz that it could change this offseason, but until it does, you have to predict Los Angeles, if they stay at No. 1, taking the best player in the draft, Jeremiah Smith. In fairness, with a new coaching regime, it’s not hard to see the impact Smith could have as a true WR1 in this offense, something they’ve been lacking, and how that can open up the rest of the offense.
The Titans, meanwhile, might be able to look at quarterback, but Cam Ward destroyed a bad Bengals defense, so we’ll hold off on that for now and start rebuilding that defense. Jeffery Simmons is gone, but Tennesse can still add a dominant force like Colin Simmons. He has the build of an elite runner and the athleticism to match elite explosiveness and stand out. He will be the cornerstone of the Titans defense for years to come.

Dolphins land Drew Mestemaker, Jets take Trinidad Chambliss to address QB
Drew Mestemaker has moved up the ranks to assume the QB1 role in the 2027 NFL Draft, where the Miami Dolphins enter consideration. Although Malik Willis is still under contract, there hasn’t been enough — at least not yet — to believe he’s the franchise player at the most important position on the field. If the feeling is the same in the Dolphins building, then Mestemaker is the guy. He has a cannon arm and has greatly improved his balance and decision-making. While he may need some time to develop, this would make Willis a valuable stopgap for Miami.
Then there are the Jets. A lot of people have Darian Mensah as their QB2 in the class, but I’m not there. I’m more willing to take the risk on another smaller but more tooled quarterback in Trinidad Chambliss. Yes, the Ole Miss product is old for the draft class, which is concerning. Still, his dual-threat ability is elite, he has a propensity for big plays and throws, and he’s much more battle tested and proven at this point. I’d be more willing to give him the keys than Mensah at this point, especially with the influx of talent the Jets will have.
Jets take Leonard Moore ahead of a QB, Commanders start fixing defense
Before the Jets select Chambliss in this mock draft, they choose Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore. Aaron Glenn isn’t long for New York, no doubt, but the defense needs to add a few more pieces that the franchise can legitimately build around. Moore is that type of cornerback, possessing ideal size but high-end movement ability on the outside and terrific footwork. He can be the anchor of this secondary for years to come.
Speaking of defense, commanders need all the help they can get. This unit has been ineffective for several years at this point, and we see it play out this way week after week. Dylan Stewart is a boost for Washington on that side of the ball, though. The South Carolina product is a play destroyer who can move to different spots on the line and constantly create disruption in the backfield, something the Commanders sorely need.

Texans, Eagles get top two offensive tackles in draft
While the Eagles could be interested in receiver, the defense as a whole, or even quarterback, I think Howie Roseman will return to the trenches. The retirement of Lane Johnson and the trade of Cam Jurgens puts Philadelphia in a precarious situation with the offensive line, so they need to take Trevor Goosby. The former 5-star recruit has the ideal build for an NFL bookend, but has developed wonderfully since transferring to LSU this season, giving him the look of a day one starter for a team like Philly.
Houston had a bye in Week 8, but they’re still in the Top 10 as they haven’t been able to fully recover from a slow start. There are still decisions to be made regarding CJ Stroud, but the Texans need to provide better protection for whoever will be the future quarterback. This is where Trevor Goosby comes in. Unfortunately, the Texas product will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury, but should be ready for Week 1 of next year. The commanders need his unfailing presence to reestablish the trenches.
Saints strengthen secondary, Jets return to defensive well
In a very similar way to what Washington needs on defense, the Saints simply need to get younger and faster on that side of the ball. Getting Ellis Robinson IV out of Georgia would go a long way toward that cause. He has been a stud since arriving in Athens and has only progressed this season into an even bigger role. Robinson’s ideal length and speed should be a nice jolt to a Saints secondary that needs a lot of long-term health.
Once again, we’re back to the Jets to round out the Top 10, and while Will Echoles has often been the pick here, there’s no denying Tennessee’s Xavier Gilliam at this point. He was a force last year on a bad Penn State team, but he really came into his own after being traded to the Vols. He creates penetration as both a run stuffer and pass blocker inside and could have the same type of impact on the Jets defense as Quinnen Williams, which is how the Jets got this selection from the Cowboys.
