NFL Refs Association to ‘challenge seriousness’ of Adrian Hill and Jeff Seeman suspensions
The NFL Referees Association is challenging the suspensions given to Adrian Hill and Jeff Seeman after Week 4.
In a statement released Tuesday, the NFLRA said it would “challenge the severity” of the NFL’s discipline of the two officials by meeting with the league’s officiating department.
The release also said the NFLRA plans to meet with leaders of the NFL Players Association to “address on-field conduct and increasing levels of confrontation between players and officials.”
NFL Vice President of Officiating Ramon George announced Monday that Seeman (two games) and Hill (one game) were suspended for unprofessional conduct during games they worked in Week 4.
Seeman was seen yelling at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride in the fourth quarter of their game against the New York Giants.
Hill, who was working the Miami Dolphins-Minnesota Vikings game, was inadvertently knocked down when Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson collided with him.
Wilson tried to help Hill up, but Hill got up on his own and had a heated reaction to the Vikings linebacker.
In response to the incident with Seeman and McBride, NFLPA executive director JC Tretter wrote on X that Seeman’s behavior is “unacceptable” and called for the same standards to be applied to referees for players.
“Players are routinely held accountable when the roles are reversed,” Tretter wrote. “We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standards.”
According to Shanna McCarriston of CBS Sports, the NFL had not suspended a referee since December 2018, when referee Roy Ellison was placed on administrative leave.
Seeman started officiating in the NFL in 2002 as a field judge and linesman. He has worked exclusively as a linesman since 2003 and has reportedly played in 380 games during his career, according to Pro Football Reference.
Hill’s first season in the NFL was in 2010 as a side judge and line judge. He has worked 117 games as a referee since the 2019 season.
