NFL reportedly ‘investigating’ comments official shared with Cardinals’ Trey McBride after argument over no-call
NFL linesman Jeff Seeman had some choice words for Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride on Sunday and the league is reportedly looking into the incident.
CBS cameras caught those words, much to the delight of McBride, who laughed and pointed it out as soon as he realized a camera was pointed at the official during the Cardinals’ game against the New York Giants.

There were no microphones nearby, so what Seeman said is left strictly to the lip readers’ interpretation. But Seeman clearly wasn’t telling McBride to have a good day.
The interaction caught the attention of NFL Players Association executive director JC Tretter, who called on the NFL to hold Seeman accountable while sharing video of the incident on social media.
“This type of behavior from an official toward a player is unacceptable,” Tretter wrote. “Players are routinely held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standards.”

Shortly after Tretter’s tweet, The Athletic’s Jonathan Jones reported that the NFL said it was “looking into the matter.”
The interaction occurred after game officials refused to call pass interference on a critical missed third-down pass from Jacoby Brissett to McBride. Giants cornerback Dru Phillips covered the play and made contact with McBride before the ball arrived. McBride immediately protested the failure to call Seeman, who was standing at the side of the room. McBride’s protests were to no avail and ultimately prompted the response seen above.
The Cardinals trailed 27-24 at the incompletion and went on the next play with 4:53 left in regulation. The Giants won the game 36-24.
McBride did not respond to Seeman’s comments with reporters after the game. The topic was not addressed in the post-match pool report.
