NFL reviewing Jordan Elliott situation
The NFL has essentially confirmed that former Titans defensive tackle Jordan Elliott went to his car to retrieve a gun last week, after an altercation at practice. In addition to urging the Titans to cut Elliott, the league is investigating the situation.
In response to this question posed to an NFL spokesperson via email Wednesday morning: “Is he subject to league scrutiny given the report that he went to retrieve a gun from a car?” » — the league responded: “Yes. The club promptly informed the league of the matter which is under review.”
A source from a team other than the Titans called the incident “a blatant violation of the conduct of having a firearm in an NFL facility” and that the rule is (or at least should be) posted at every team facility, in multiple locations.
“You’re not allowed to have one in your car if your car is parked at an NFL facility,” the source said. “So I think it’s pretty certain that Elliott will be suspended if and when he signs with a team.”
Fortunately, an inherently dangerous situation did not result in tragedy. The message to all other players is clear. If you own a firearm, always leave it at home before driving to work.
